Introduction and Early Life:

Teen sensation Justin Bieber is one of the most beloved and hated music celebrities in the English-speaking world. The Canadian singer-songwriter has developed a massive global fan base, termed as “Beliebers”. One of the top ten most powerful celebrities in the world according to Forbes magazine, Bieber has sold more than 15 million records worldwide. He has also received significant media coverage regarding his troubled personal life and relationships.

“Justin Drew Bieber” was born in London, Ontario in 1994. His parents never married and he was raised in Stratford, Ontario by his mother, Pattie, and his stepfather, Bruce. Bieber’s mother worked hard to bring him up, and often accepted low-paying jobs. He attended the Jeanne Sauvé Catholic School, where he learned to play musical instruments such as the piano, guitar, drums and trumpet.

Career and Musical Achievements:

Bieber was only 12 years old when he sang Ne-Yo’s “So Sick” in a local singing competition in 2007, bagging the second prize. His mother uploaded the video from the event, as well as his covers of various R&B songs on social media site YouTube, which eventually led to his discovery by American talent manager Scooter Braun.

Braun introduced him to famed rapper Usher and Bieber was subsequently signed to Raymond Braun Media Group (RBMG), a joint venture between Braun and Usher, in 2008. He later secured a recording contract with Island Records in 2008. Bieber’s debut single, “One Time”, became an international hit, peaking at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100. His debut EP, My World (2009), debuted at number six on the US Billboard 200 and went on to sell one million copies in the United States alone.

Bieber’s first full-length studio album, My World 2.0 (2010), debuted at number one in the United States and several other countries, as well as reaching top five in other international markets. The album spawned the mega hit chart-topper, “Baby”, and four other hit singles.

His second studio album, Under the Mistletoe (2011), also debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, entering the top 10 in Spain, Australia, Norway, and the Netherlands. Never Say Never, a 2011 3-D concert film directed by Jon M. Chu, grossed a total of $98,441,954 worldwide. Bieber released his third studio album, Believe, in 2012. The album garnered generally positive reviews, debuting at number one on the US Billboard 200 and selling more than three million copies worldwide.
